Apple has unveiled the iOS 17 update, with its release date looming in the shadow of the iPhone ‘Wonderlust’ event.

While all eyes were on Apple’s “Wonderlust” event this Tuesday, the tech giant quietly announced the release date for its forthcoming operating system, iOS 17.

iOS 17 is scheduled to launch on September 18 and will introduce a slew of new features to various iPhone models, including the iPhone 15.

The update encompasses enhancements across the iPhone’s core functions, spanning phone operations, messaging, and apps. Additionally, iOS 17 will usher in fresh features and modes for both the iPhone and AirPods Pro.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect from iOS 17:

New Features in iOS 17:

Standby Mode While Charging: iPhone users will be able to place their devices into standby mode while charging on their sides. In this mode, the phone can double as a clock, display photos, or run widgets.

Live Voicemail Screening: With this feature, users can view a real-time transcript of a voicemail, giving them the option to decide whether to answer the call.

FaceTime Screen Projection: FaceTime users can project their calls onto an AppleTV device. While the iPhone or iPad will act as the outgoing camera, incoming video will be displayed on the larger screen.

NameDrop Feature: A spin-off of the AirDrop function, NameDrop allows iPhone users to share contact information by bringing their phones close to each other.

Enhancements for iPhones:

FaceTime Video Messages: Users can now leave video messages if the recipient doesn’t answer. These messages will resemble voicemails and include various video effects. Users can also configure iOS 17 to automatically mute FaceTime calls from non-contacts.

Phone App Visual Alerts: For those using iPhones primarily as phones, the phone app has been enhanced with new visual alerts to signal incoming calls from contacts.

Improved Autocorrect and Predictive Text: These features will receive enhancements in the update.

Enhancements for AirPods:

Adaptive Audio: iOS 17 introduces Adaptive Audio to AirPods Pro, which adjusts media volume and noise cancellation levels to match the user’s environment.

Conversation Awareness Mode: This mode customizes playback volume and amplifies the voices of individuals in front of the user.

Direct Controls from AirPods: Users can now mute the microphone, media, or end calls directly from their AirPods.

iOS 17 appears to be packed with numerous improvements and exciting features, promising to enhance the user experience on both iPhones and AirPods.
