Cassidy Hutchinson Provides Further Insight into Turmoil Within Trump’s Administration

A Former White House Aide Alleges Mark Meadows Burned Documents and Voiced Concerns About Trump

Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide who previously exposed information related to the January 6 insurrection, has released a tell-all book titled “Enough.” In the book, she provides further insight into her time as an assistant to Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff during the Trump administration.

Hutchinson alleges that during the transition period, she witnessed Meadows burning papers in his office fireplace at the White House. This occurred when most staff members were on holiday break, leaving Hutchinson and White House lawyers as the only ones present. Meadows reportedly had General Services Administration staff members light a fire in his office fireplace daily.

While Hutchinson does not specify the content of the papers being burned, her account raised concerns as the Presidential Records Act requires staff members to retain original documents and send them to the National Archives.

Hutchinson had previously conveyed these observations to the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol. In addition to the burning of documents, Hutchinson recounts her experience working at the White House during the pandemic in 2020.

One notable incident involved Trump’s demand that Attorney General William Barr fire Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. Meadows allegedly expressed concerns about keeping Trump “out of jail” during his tenure as chief of staff.

Hutchinson’s book also discusses the death of Herman Cain, a former presidential candidate and Trump ally, whom they believed contracted Covid-19 at a Trump rally. According to Hutchinson, Meadows commented, “We killed Herman Cain,” upon learning of Cain’s death.

Mark Meadows and a spokesperson for him have not responded to requests for comment on Hutchinson’s claims. The spokesperson previously stated that Hutchinson’s memoir contains “half-truths, falsehoods, and purposefully omitted context to sell books.”

Hutchinson had testified before the January 6 committee last year, alleging that Meadows burned documents. She also claimed that Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of an SUV during the January 6 incident, which Trump disputed, calling her account “the craziest account I’ve ever heard.”

Regarding the book’s allegations, Trump’s campaign spokesman referred to Hutchinson as a “liar,” and Rudy Giuliani, who was accused of groping her on January 6, called the allegations “absolutely false” and “totally absurd.”
