The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Tuesday, featuring a dazzling array of artists and nominees. Taylor Swift stood at the forefront with a remarkable eight nominations, including prestigious categories like artist of the year, video of the year, and song of the year for her 2022 hit “Anti-Hero.” Notably, she triumphed in all televised categories in which she was nominated.

Joining Swift in the artist of the year category were the formidable talents of Beyoncé, Doja, Karol G, Minaj, and Shakira. This marked a historic moment as, for the first time since the category’s inception in 2017, all artist of the year nominees were women. Shakira received the esteemed Video Vanguard Award, while the event introduced the exciting new category of Best Afrobeats.
