Nicks’ connection with Barbie dates back to her childhood when her mother gifted her the very first Barbie doll at the tender age of 11. She aspired to resemble the doll but believed it was an unattainable dream, saying, “I don’t think that’s in my future.” Nonetheless, her fascination with dolls persisted, even during her Fleetwood Mac days.

When Mattel approached Nicks with the idea of creating a doll inspired by her, she was initially surprised. She reminisced, “You really just collected baby dolls, and your Barbie was way too beautiful for you to relate to.” However, upon seeing the final product, she was captivated and said, “When I got her, it’s like my whole world changed.” She described the doll as strong, fierce, and solid—a miniature feminist figure.

To Nicks, this tambourine-carrying doll isn’t just a representation of herself; it holds memories and experiences she has either forgotten or tucked away. Looking at the doll, she sees her entire life, from the beginning to the present.
Nicks particularly admires the doll’s delicate hands, which resemble her own. She praised Mattel’s attention to detail in crafting these figurines.

The doll’s all-black ensemble is a direct replica of Nicks’ iconic look on the cover of Fleetwood Mac’s masterpiece, “Rumours.” She provided Mattel with the original outfit from her personal collection and even sent a pair of boots crafted by renowned shoemaker Pasquale di Fabrizio. With the addition of her signature crescent moon pendant and billowy blond bangs, the doll embodies the quintessential Stevie Nicks style.

Interestingly, the doll’s design mirrors a stick figure sketch Nicks created to illustrate her “uniform” for stylist Margi Kent before her first Fleetwood Mac tour. She envisioned a handkerchief skirt, platform boots, and long sleeves, a timeless style she still embraces today.
